Snow not likely to last

JUNEAU - Juneau can expect to see today's snow turn to Tuesday's rain.

The National Weather Service in Juneau issued a snow advisory today when a frontal system moved in from the southwest, bringing with it warm moist air, said Pete Rahe, hydrometeorological technician. The warm air moving over cold Juneau air caused clouds and the 3 to 5 inches of snow seen today, Rahe said.

But don't expect today's snow or the 25 mph wind gusts to stick around for the week. By Tuesday, he said, snow will turn to rain and winds will die down to about 15 mph. Rain is expected through Sunday, with a let-up Wednesday when it will be mostly cloudy. Temperatures are expected to be in the 30s and 40s, according to the weather service.
