There's a lot going on with Juneau's docks and harbors right now: proposed rate increases, liveaboard fees, shore power system changes, and lots of Docks and Harbors Board meetings to attend, not only to learn more about what's happening, but to offer comments, ideas and suggestions.
As someone who uses and enjoys the harbors, I've gone to many of the meetings and am always happy to see other folks turn up. The next meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m., Feb. 24, in the Assembly chambers. Come see what's happening and take part in the decision-making process that will determine what our docks and harbors look like. Or better yet, apply for the current vacancy on the Docks and Harbors Board. An application is available on the city Web site, and the application period runs till March 11.
The best way to ensure our docks and harbors reflect the interests of all users, charter operators, recreational boaters, commercial fishermen, and liveaboards, is by creating a board that reflects those users. So, hop online, download the paperwork and apply. I did.
