Vicki Converse, 97, died Feb. 22, 2005, at Juneau Pioneers Home.
She was born on Dec. 3, 1907, in New Jersey. She attended school in New York City and worked in Washington, D.C., before moving to California, where she lived from 1925 to 1951.
She came to Juneau for work in the Office of Rent Stabilization. She then took a position with employment security, where she stayed for 18 years, retiring in 1970.
She married Ryder Converse on July 4, 1955. Together they enjoyed hunting, fishing and operating boats.
She was a member of the Perseverance Rebekah Lodge #2-A, a veteran member of Pioneers Auxiliary No. 6 and a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ryder Converse.
She is survived by her stepchildren, Evelyn (Ed) Dierick, Carolyn (Pat) Donohue, Bob Converse, Ron (Jan) Converse, Andrew (Maryrita) Gray, and Harold Gray; her sister-in-law Marcia "Dutchie" Converse; and longtime friends, Beverly and Dave Miller and Marg and Gary Hedges of Juneau.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Juneau Pioneers Home. Her ashes will be spread over Tenakee Inlet during a gathering of family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tenakee Volunteer Fire Department.
