Basic hunter education course offered in Juneau

JUNEAU - The Juneau Hunter Education Facility will offer a Basic Hunter Education Course March 6-8 at the Juneau Hunter Education Facility at 5670 Montana Creek Road. Times are 6-9 p.m. Thursday, 6-9 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

The course will include instruction on firearms safety and handling, wildlife conservation and management, game laws and regulations, and hunter ethics and responsibility.

A hunter education course is a requirement for anyone hunting on the Mendenhall Wetlands, starting this year. Successful graduates will be awarded a lifetime hunter education certification recognized throughout North America.

Independent study materials are $10. To register, students are required to purchase a packet of study materials at the JHEF or the Douglas Fish and Game Office, Room 201 (465-4265). The study workbook must be completed prior to the start of the course and all materials brought to the class.
