Longtime Juneau resident Betty L. Boddy died Feb. 17, 2009, in Juneau. She was 85.
Born Dec. 7, 1923, in Columbus, Neb., to Fred R. and Eden L. (Allen) Waring, she was raised, after the death of her mother, by her father and step-mother, Bess (Johnson) Waring, in Stanton, Neb.
After graduating from high school, she attended Norfolk Junior College for two years. She then traveled to Lincoln, Neb., to work for the state government.
In June 1952, she and two friends, Elaine (Lindell) Vuille and Norma Jean (Bumann) McCorcle, moved to Juneau. Upon arriving, she immediately went to work for the state as a secretary and continued that line of work until her retirement from the state Department of Education in 1977.
She met her husband, Doug Boddy, shortly after arriving in Juneau, and they were married on April 17, 1953, in Juneau, where they have since kept their home.
She was a member of Igloo 6, Pioneers of Alaska and Juneau Chapter G, PEO.
"The joy of her life was her family and close friends," her family said.
She is survived by her husband, Doug Boddy, of Juneau; daughter, Diane Boddy, of Juneau; sons, Dave Boddy and wife, Karen, of Juneau, and Tom Boddy and wife, Sandy, of Juneau; grandchildren, Kyle Boddy and wife, Mclean, of Salt Lake City, Justin Boddy, of Fairbanks, Sean Boddy, of Juneau, Ashley Boddy, of Tillamook, Ore., and Doug and Calvin Boddy, of Juneau; great-grandchild, Paityn Boddy, of Salt Lake City; brothers, Jim Waring and wife, Lois, of Wheatridge, Colo., and Tom Waring and wife, Carol, of Fremont, Neb., and their families, and numerous other family members and close friends.
To honor her wishes, she was cremated and no services will be held. A celebration of her life will be held for the family and close friends at a later date.
