JUNEAU - Michelle Prebula was elected chair of the United Way of Southeast Alaska. Prebula, who serves as cash manager for the State of Alaska Department of Revenue, has served on the board since 2007.
"This is going to be a great year," said Prebula. "We have a great board that is motivated to making a difference in the lives of people in Southeast Alaska and there are some huge issues that we as a community need to tackle."
Prebula leads a 17-member board that works with nearly 30 partner agencies throughout Southeast Alaska. Lance Stevens was chosen chair elect for the upcoming year. Stevens served as the 2009 campaign chair and works as the regional vice president of Alaska USA Federal Credit Union.
Mary Becker was elected secretary and Sheri Croll was re-elected to serve another term as treasurer.
Two new members were elected to the board: Heather Swanson, an information services consultant at the University of Alaska Southeast, and Mark Bryan, publisher of the Juneau Empire.
Chuck Collins, business manager of Key Bank, was chosen to lead the 2010 campaign that will begin in September. The 2009 campaign is ongoing. Pledges to date have reached $364,398.15. This year saw an increase in individual giving in Southeast Alaska but a decrease in foundation grants used for operations.
