Richard Schmitz ("(Questions and answers about war and peace," Empire, Feb. 24) certainly knows how to paint the town red. The author suffers bad eyesight, though, and perhaps failed math in high school ("On Feb. 15 some dozen Juneau activists marched ..."); loves slinging red herrings to his far left ("...no interest to the Far Left that Afghan women ... are no longer brutally raped ..."), and thrills at hyperventilative, Limbaughian code ("horrific," "horrors," "moral outrage," "atrocities," "burning hatred for the U.S.," "nauseating even," "hostility to Christianity," "doing nothing to advance the cause of liberty") that lumps his benighted Far Left, pinko peace activists and red-bellied appeasers together with Saddam, Stalin and Hitler. Lordy, what company peace keeps.
Richard, oh Richard, far have ye strayed from the Unitarian fold. Cast out that foul spirit of Limbaugh lurking within and fling thy hidden compassionate soul into a whirling, liberating dance of peace divine.
