KAKE - A 23-year-old man died Monday off the southeast Alaska community of Kake when his canoe capsized near Point White.

Another man in the canoe swam to shore.

The dead man's name was not immediately released. He was pronounced dead at the Kake clinic at 3:40 p.m.

Kake is on the northwest coast of Kupreanof Island about 38 miles northwest of Petersburg.

The Coast Guard took a report of the missing man at 1:13 p.m. and diverted a helicopter from a Sitka training session to search for him.

A Good Samaritan in a boat found the missing man at 2:20 p.m.
