SITKA - The SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium Mount Edgecumbe Hospital in Sitka recently added Dr. William D. Beutel to its medical staff.
"Dr. Beutel joins our medical staff as an experienced board-certified general surgeon," said Dr. Marty Grasmeder, SEARHC Sitka Primary Care Services Medical Director. "He has been in private practice in North Carolina, and brings with him a broad range of skills. We're delighted to have him working in Sitka."
Beutel earned his medical doctorate and master of public health degrees from the University of Illinois in Chicago. He also holds a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill., and a master's degree in biology from Occidental College in Los Angeles. While in college,Beutel was selected for the James Scholar Program of Independent Study at the University of Illinois. He also participated in the Medical Assistance Programs-Reader's Digest International Medical Fellowship Program in India.
After spending three years as a staff surgeon at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Surgery in Iowa City, Iowa, Dr. Beutel moved to the Charlotte, N.C., region where he had a private surgical practice for 23 years. He is certified as a general surgeon by the American Board of Surgery.
