Beverly Shepherd

Former Juneau resident Beverly Ann Shepherd died Feb. 7, 2010, in Phoenix. She was 73.

Born in 1936 in Blue Rapids, Kan., she was a Juneau resident for 15 years. She was an office worker at JCPenny in Tukwilla, Wash., and purchasing agent at the State Office Building in Juneau.

She retired from the state of Alaska. While in Juneau she enjoyed her time in the great outdoors - hiking, kayaking and cross- country skiing. She loved sewing, quilting, beading, reading and traveling. She spent her winters in Yuma, Ariz., since 1997.

She was preceded in death by her father, Peter Joseph Ziegler.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Wayne Shepherd, of Washington; 97-year-old mother, Leila Ziegler, of Washington; daughters, Linda Wallis and husband, David, and Laura Valentine and husband, John, of Washington; sons, John Shepherd, of Washington, and Joe Shepherd, of Juneau; grandchildren, Christopher and Katherine Valentine, of Washington.

A memorial was held in Yuma. There also will be a service in Washington at a later date.
