Staci Ignell, a senior at Juneau-Douglas High School, was selected as Student of the Month for January by the Glacier Valley Rotary Club.
Ignell was recommended for the award by JDHS counselor Kathy McCasland, who called Ignell "an inspiration," noting her leadership of the school's food and warm clothes drives for the needy.
Ignell has served as class president every year since eighth grade and this year she is also serving as community service co-chairperson at JDHS. After high school, Ignell plans to attend college in Irvine, Calif., and possibly enter the fields of marketing or government.
Ignell's mother, Janet Rider, and grandparents, Ramona and Elmer Ignell, joined Staci at the awards ceremony.
Glacier Valley Rotary Club presented Ignell with a certificate for outstanding achievement, and Alaska Pacific Bank gave her a U.S. savings bond.
