Alaska's new US marshal sworn in

Posted: Friday, February 26, 2010

ANCHORAGE - Former Anchorage Police Chief Rob Heun is now the U.S. marshal for Alaska.

Heun was sworn in Wednesday at the U.S. Marshals Service headquarters in Arlington, Va.

Heun was suggested for the job by U.S. Sen. Mark Begich, D-Alaska, and nominated by President Barack Obama. He was confirmed by the full Senate earlier this month.

Heun retired as police chief in August. He had been chief since 2006 and on the force for 26 years.

In his retirement announcement, Heun said that with a new mayor, Dan Sullivan, taking office, the decision to leave made sense.
