JUNEAU - Health and Social Services Commissioner Bill Hogan says he wants to work with state lawmakers to address soaring Medicaid costs.
Hogan says Alaska will face significant funding challenges if the current federal match is lowered, as expected, by Jan. 1.
The House Finance Committee is expected to review Medicaid spending and projections Thursday.
Gov. Sean Parnell has requested nearly $80 million for Medicaid costs for the next fiscal year, beginning July 1. He has blamed Medicaid and other entitlement programs for much of the spending increase in his budget proposal.
