Word of mouth

If it's going to cost $46 million to build a second access to Douglas, how do they figure they're going to build a road between Juneau and Haines for $230 million?

In reference to the idea that people who ride ATVs should buy their own land, if that's the case, then it looks like hikers are going to be spending an awful lot of money buying mountains and people riding mountain bikes are going to spend a fortune on trails. They don't have to pay anything extra for their recreational activities and people that ride ATVs should be offered the same opportunities.

Black cat on a black road in the black of night; if it was your pet that darted into my path at 10 p.m. last night on southbound Egan just past Sunny Drive - its death was instantaneous. I burst into tears and cried all the way home to Douglas. I am so sorry for your loss.

I find it reprehensible that the City of Juneau is willing to dump all of the people that go to the Mental Health Center and pan them off on another non-profit agency. Does the city care anything about the well-being of these people? It's hard to believe that the city puts a dollar amount as a priority over people's health in this community.

The EPA says that chlorine is harmful to the marine environment and they want to stop using it to bleach paper in paper mills. On the other hand, the EPA requires municipalities to put chlorine in the drinking water. Is chlorine bad for clams but good for humans?

I'm a single, Alaska Native mother having difficulty in seeking resourceful help about my small business from Central Council Tlingit and Haida. I can not express how frustrating it is to see that you have to know the personnel out of the office to receive any help.

In response to the drinking problem with teens, instead of destroying everyone's right to privacy, why don't the parents and homeowners just leave a consent to search on file with the Juneau Police Department? Then, the police can come in search when they please.

We get written questionnaires in the mail about trail use and Dredge Lake and public meetings about ferry service. Meanwhile, the city fathers meet in a secret meeting to can the Mental Health Clinic. I think it really stinks. I wonder who is getting the payoff on this.

Stop whining about a road to Skagway and Haines and just do it. All the small communities can benefit from this. Plus, we need better ferry service to Kake. We would like to go to Juneau for two or three days to take care of business, see doctors and shop instead of going on the milk run. We can't do it because other communities have a ferry service more than once a week and Kake gets service only once a week. With air service being so expensive, how can a family afford it? We need a road and frequent ferry service

When you think about it, there isn' too much difference between the drunks on the street and the people complaining about them. It's basically that the complainers drink their martinis and highballs, make a fool of themselves and go home to a warm bed.

High schoolers who are caught drinking should buck up and be glad that they are not getting more than a slap on the wrist. This is a small town and I've heard that the punishments are barely enforced for such students as drill teamers.
