Friday, Feb. 28

"Introduction to Argentine tango: the style, the music, the embrace, 'the code,' " 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Saturday, March 1

"Argentine tango: walks (caminadas), swivels (ochos), rotations (giros),"

9-10:30 a.m.

"Argentine tango: simple entradas, sacadas and voleos,"

10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

"Argentine tango: advanced llevedas, arastres, planeos, ganchos,"

An Argentine tango workshop with teacher Percell Rivere St. Thomass will be held beginning at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at the Elks Lodge downtown. The workshop will continue through Sunday, March 2. An evening dance with instruction and ballroom music also will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 1.

St. Thomass is the director and choreographer of the performance theater "Balladagio." He directs dance academies in Anchorage and Hawaii and is a national adjudicator for the U.S. Independent Dance Council, a director of the American Professional Theatre Guild, and an instructor for the Fred Astaire National Dance Association.

The Argentine tango is an improvisational lead-and-follow dance from Buenos Aires. The workshop is sponsored by the Juneau International Folkdancers with support from the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council.

The workshop costs $60, or $10 per session. The Saturday dance costs $7. For more information or to preregister call 364-2334, or e-mail botelho@gci.net.
