Our city Assembly members should require cost-of-operation estimates for all designs for the new Mendenhall Valley pool. The new pool will not be required to fund operations on gate receipts alone.
The difference between gate receipts and the cost of operations will be shouldered by all Juneau taxpayers. Requiring an operational cost estimate (which should be audited with a second, independent estimate) may force designers to spend our money building a pool with the lowest operational costs, rather than building the fanciest pool in Alaska.
