Darla Fagerstrom Morford, of Juneau, and John Baumgartner, of Douglas, exchanged wedding vows on July 28, 2007, on top of the Mendenhall Glacier. The official ceremony was written and performed by the bride's father, Kent Fagerstrom, that evening at the Glacier Pavillion, with both families present. Dinner and wedding cake was served at El Sombrero, and a picnic was held at Sandy Beach the next day.
John and Darla were two Alaskans living in Texas when they found each other on Feb. 28, 2007, through Match.com.
"We both had the same background picture for our profiles, the Mighty Mendenhall!" they said. "It took only one e-mail to begin a relationship that became the 'True Companions' that Darla was searching for, and the 'New Beginning for '07' that John was looking for."
The bride is the daugter of Kent and Donna Fagerstrom. A graduate of International Business School Cosmetology, she is a hair stylist for Christina Campbell Supercuts, in Denton, Texas.
The groom is the son of Bill and Sarah Baumgartner. A University of Idaho graduate, he is Director Of Engineering for the City of Allen, Texas.
The couple's daughters, Jordan Morford, 13, and Emily Baumgartner, 11, stood in for their parents, scattering the rose petals from bouquets that John had given Darla over the months. Each of the girls carried the wedding rings.
The bride's sons, Brett Morford, 28, Stephen Morford, 25, and Michael Morford, 23, gave her their blessings, with John's son, Robert Baumgartner, 15, joining their parents in thought.
