HOMER - It will soon be officially illegal to feed eagles in the Alaska fishing town of Homer.
The Homer City Council this week formally implemented a ban on feeding eagles that was originally passed in 2006 before a special exemption was granted to the late Jean Keene, a local known as the "Eagle Lady."
Keene would have been allowed to continue her longtime practice of feeding the eagles until 2010.
With her death in January, a friend of Keene's was allowed to continue feeding the birds this winter.
The formal ban, essentially a bookkeeping move, becomes effective March 28.
