Posted: Sunday, February 27, 2011

In celebration of Global Astronomy Month and National Poetry Month in April, the Marie Drake Planetarium is sponsoring an astronomy poetry contest for Juneau residents.

Categories include adult, grades 4-6, grades 7-9 and grades 10-12. Each poem must be original, and each participant may enter up to three poems.

Please include the author’s name, poem title, category and grade (for youth entries). Poems may be e-mailed to, mailed to Cristina Della Rosa, P.O. Box 20912, Juneau, AK 99802 or dropped off in person at the planetarium.

Poems must be appropriate for a general audience of all ages. Entries will not be returned. Judges will be planetarium volunteers. By entering the contest, poets authorize the Marie Drake Planetarium to display, read and publish all entries. The winning poems will be published on the planetarium’s website and displayed at the planetarium. The poems will also be read at a planetarium show in April. Poems may further be published and displayed at additional places. Winners will receive a Marie Drake Planetarium bumper sticker.

The deadline for entries is March 14.
