JUNEAU - The University of Alaska Southeast and Eaglecrest are sponsoring the fourth annual Snow Jam, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 9 at Eaglecrest Ski Area.
Snow Jam events are open to everyone. Registration starts at 10 a.m. Cost is free.
According to Laura Powers, administrative assistant for UAS Student Government, there were more than 50 people registered last year.
"Now that we don't charge to register I believe we will see an increase in participants from last year," she said.
Events include a Nordic race at 11 a.m., kids obstacle course at 11:30 a.m., slope-style race at noon, snow art at 1:30 p.m., team relay at 2 p.m., downhill dummy at 3:30 p.m., and human sled dog at 4 p.m., with bonfire and live music with Fire on McGinnis to follow.
"A new event this year is the Human Sled Dog," Powers said. "The person pulling the sled will have snow shoes, etc. The weight minimum is still being decided."
