I find it ironic that the state is debating the death penalty with understandable passion, while an abortion clinic recently opened in Juneau with little debate or controversy.
I am sadly amazed that our society is so routinely willing to carry out a sentence against innocent life that we are reluctant to impose on perpetrators of violent crimes. I would like to see a more equitable distribution of compassion.
My wife and I are eternally grateful for the young couple that, despite fear, had the courage to choose life for our daughter and allow us the opportunity of parenthood. In our rush toward tolerance for those who would offend and endanger society, may we more willingly tolerate the perceived inconvenience of protecting the health and safety of the innocent unborn.
