SITKA - The SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium recently named Norma Perkins as its director of professional services at Mt. Edgecumbe Hospital.
"I am very pleased to see Norma move into this new role," said Frank Sutton, SEARHC vice president of hospital services. "I have worked with her in a variety of positions for many years and believe that she will do an excellent job managing the professional services division. Her work background and education have prepared her well for this position."
Perkins has been with SEARHC for 23 years, starting in 1986 as a lead accounts payable clerk in Sitka. She moved to Juneau in 1988 to become accounts payable supervisor, but returned to Sitka in 1991 to become a health systems specialist, where she was mentored by Sutton. She moved to the business office in 1999 and in 2000 became assistant director of corporate business operations, the job she held until her recent promotion.
Perkins earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Sheldon Jackson College in Sitka, and she is in the process of completing a master's degree in health care administration from Trinity University of San Antonio, Texas.
In 1994, Perkins received the SEARHC Gumboot Award for outstanding dedication and commitment to the consortium. She was honored for her work with vendor payments during the years when SEARHC was faced with low funding levels, and she was recognized for her efforts to complete her education. In 1992, Perkins was recognized by SEARHC for outstanding budget development for the hospital and clinical services division.
