Charges filed in Two Rivers horse shooting

Posted: Sunday, March 01, 2009

FAIRBANKS - Prosecutors in Fairbanks have filed a formal charge against a Two Rivers woman accused of shooting and killing her neighbor's horse.

Forty-eight-year-old Jamie Rogers is charged with misdemeanor weapons misconduct, punishable by up to a year in jail.

Rogers in October told Alaska State Troopers that she woke to the sound of horses running along a nearby trail. She says her neighbor's loose horses in the past had kicked and bit her own horses.

Rogers acknowledged shooting several rounds from a handgun to try to scare the horses.

The neighbor rounded up the stray animals, examined them but did not see any wounds.

However, the neighbor a day later discovered that her 4-year-old American Quarter Horse had died of a gunshot wound.
