Registered dietitians at the SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium Ethel Lund Medical Center will host a series of activities in March for National Nutrition Month.
National Nutrition Month is an annual nutrition education and information campaign sponsored by the American Dietetic Association. The campaign focuses attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. This year’s theme is “Eat Right With Color,” which encourages people to make sure their plates feature a full spectrum of colorful and healthy fruits and vegetables (reds, yellows/whites, oranges, purples/blues and greens).
Throughout March there will be nutrition information displays in the reception area at the center and in the lobby of the Juneau Dental/Behavioral Health/WIC building. There also will be food boxes by the information displays so people can donate food that will be delivered to the Southeast Alaska Food Bank at the end of the month.
On March 9, which is National Registered Dietitians Day, Natwick will host a food-tasting event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the center. Feel free to stop by to sample the delicious food and pick up some healthy recipes.
Also during March will be several “Exercise with the RDs” events. These lunchtime events all take place from noon until 1 p.m. at the center’s conference rooms. Participants will be eligible to win a pass for 10 visits to either Pavitt Health and Fitness or JRC/The Alaska Club to be drawn at each class. The “Exercise with the RDs” events are March 8 for Zumba, March 16 for tap dance and March 23 and 30 for yoga.
