Gastineau Channel Little League registration: Register your child for softball or baseball at the Nugget Mall. Gastineau Channel Little League tryouts: Tryouts for GCLL teams will take place on Sunday and Monday, March 4-5. Baseball tryouts will take place at Floyd Dryden Middle School on Sunday and Glacier Valley Elementary School on Monday. Softball tryouts are at Auke Bay Elementary School on Sunday and at Riverbend Elementary School on Monday. On Sunday, baseball and softball tryouts will be on the following time schedule: age 9-10 meet at noon, age 11-12 at 1:30 p.m., age 13-14 at 3 p.m. and age 15-16 at 4:30 p.m. On Monday, tryouts for all ages are at 6 p.m. for both sports. Water safety instructor aide course: Meet at 9:45 a.m. on Saturdays, March 3 through April 28 (no class March 24) for a two-hour class. This course is designed for swimmers age 10-older who exhibit a strong sense of maturity and responsibility. Capital City Classic pool tournament: Juneau's biggest pool tournament is March 8-11 at two downtown locations, the Imperial Billiards and Bar and the Viking Lounge. The tournament costs $50 per player per event to enter. Nine-ball starts at 9 a.m. on March 8, 8-ball is 9 a.m. on March 9, 8-ball Scotch doubles is 9 a.m. on March 10, and all finals start at 9 a.m. on March 11. Juneau 4-H cross-country ski program: Meet from 1:30-3 p.m. every Sunday at locations TBA (call the University of Alaska Southeast Cooperative Extension Service for the location of that week's outing). The program is open to skiers in grades K-12, and parents are invited to participate. Membership fee for 4-H program is $6.
