Cross-country skiing expert Adam Verrier will teach a series of classes at the Eaglecrest Ski Area on March 7, 8 and 9.
Verrier was a member of the 1994 U.S. Olympic team in Lillehammer. He is the 2003 national Nordic ski champion in his age class, said Bart Watson of the Juneau Nordic Ski Club.
"He coaches regularly in Anchorage and approaches everything in skiing with an infectious enthusiasm," said Watson. "His classes were a huge success last year."
The classes are sponsored by the ski club and Eaglecrest.
The schedule is:
Advanced skating, with an emphasis on racing techniques, March 7, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Advanced classic, with an emphasis on racing techniques, March 7, 1:30-4:30 p.m.
Beginning skating, March 8, 9-10:45 a.m.; March 9, 11 a.m.-12:45 p.m.
Beginning classic, March 8, 11 a.m.-12:45 p.m.; March 9, 9-10:45 p.m.
Intermediate/advanced classic, March 8, 1:30-4:30 p.m.
Intermediate/advanced skating, March 9, 1:30-4:30 p.m.
If there is sufficient demand, Verrier will stay through Monday to hold additional advanced classes for whatever technique is most popular.
Each class will be limited to 10 students. The prices are $25 for the Saturday and Sunday morning classes, and $35 for the afternoon classes and the Friday classes.
Sign up by calling the Eaglecrest Ski School at 790-2001. The ski school office is closed Tuesday and Wednesday, and sign-ups can be arranged those days only at the Eaglecrest business office in town at 586-5284.
Payment is required to hold a place. Participants are welcome to sign up for more than one class. Classes are likely to sell out again this year. Those who cancel after signing up must be sure to give the Eaglecrest Ski School a call at least 48 hours before the class to qualify for a refund.
