ANCHORAGE - About 2,000 runners took park in the third annual Running of the Reindeer at the Anchorage Fur Rendezvous.
There were five heats Sunday to give everyone a chance to mingle with the animals on the one-block race.
The reindeer jostled tamely with the runners. Many people wore zany costumes - Vikings, butterflies, a purple moose and a guy wearing a polar bear hide.
The Anchorage Daily News reports runners and spectators also enjoyed reindeer sausage, salami and other reindeer snacks. Proceeds from the $25 entry fees went to the Toys for Tots charity.
