Capital City pool tournament returns
The Juneau Billiard Association's annual Capital City Classic pool tournament will take place today through Saturday at three locations in downtown Juneau.
Preliminary competition in Nine-Ball will take place today at the Viking Lounge, the Red Dog Saloon and the Elks Club. Early-rounds of Eight-Ball will be held Friday, with Scotch Doubles on Saturday. Finals in all three events will take place Sunday at the Viking Lounge.
Registration will start at 8 a.m. each day at the Viking Lounge. The entry fee is $50 for each event. After a players' meeting, competition will start around 10 a.m. and last all day. Times have not yet been set for Sunday's finals.
Juneau Billiard Association President Bruce Legas said about 100 players are expected from around Southeast.
DiCarlo, Buss lead racquetball tourney
Paul DiCarlo and David Buss won titles at JRC/The Alaska Club's Valentine Racquetball Tournament, held Feb. 19.
DiCarlo finished first in the open singles division, while Bob Peel took second and Charlie Deininger finished third.
Buss was the winner in the A/B singles division, followed by Chris Landis in second place and Stacey Anderson in third.
Bob Koenitzer and Kelly King combined to win the title in doubles competition. There was a tie for second between Peel and Rory Niere, and Deininger and Dave Meiners. Anderson and Joe Thomas claimed third place.
