• Eaglecrest Ski Area March events - It's March Madness time at Eaglecrest Ski Area. Events include: UAS Winter Games on March 5-6; Juneau Ski Club Mighty Mite age 12-under slalom race on March 6; "You Go Girl!" all-day women's snowboard workshop on March 12; JSC races on March 12; the ORCA Ski-a-thon on March 19; a variety of ski and snowboard camps over Spring Break, March 21-25; Alaska Youth Ski League state championships from March 24-27; and an Easter celebration with a purple bunny chase, egg hunt and bonnet contest on March 27. • Juneau Soccer Club - U17/U18 girls team tryout - Tryouts for a combined U17/U18 JSC girls soccer team will be held on Sunday, March 13, from 2-3:30 p.m. at the Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School gym. Girls players born between Aug. 1, 1987, and July 31, 1989, are invited to try out for a team that will compete at the Ina K Tournament in Anchorage this June. There is $25 tryout fee and registration form for players who are not JSC members; forms will be available at the tryout, or can be found on the Web at The rest of the JSC tryouts will take place in April. • Wells Fargo Tennis & Recquetball Tournament - JRC/The Alaska Club will host this tournament from March 17-20 at its Mendenhall Valley location. Players of all levels are invited to enter the tournament in men's, women's, mixed or junior singles and doubles divisions. The registration deadline is Friday, March 11. Tournament fees are $35+tax for JRC members, $45+tax for non-members and $15+tax for juniors; there is a flat fee of $15 to enter a second event. • Juneau Billiard Association - Capital City Classic pool tournament - The annual Capital City Classic pool tournament returns today through Sunday at three locations in downtown Juneau - the Viking Lounge, the Red Dog Saloon and the Elks Club. There will be Nine-Ball competition today, Eight-Ball on Friday, Scotch Doubles on Saturday and finals for each event on Sunday. Registration will start at 8 a.m. each day at the Viking, with a $50 fee for each event. Competition will start at about 10 a.m. and lasts all day. • Juneau-Douglas High School girls basketball: The Crimson Bears host the Sitka Wolves for a pair of Southeast Conference-Class 4A games. Game times each night are 8 p.m. varsity, 6:15 p.m. junior varsity and 4:30 p.m. C team.



• Gastineau Channel Little League 2005 season tryouts - GCLL has scheduled baseball and softball tryouts for the 2005 season. Baseball tryouts will be held on Saturday, March 5, at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School; Sunday, March 6, at Floyd Dryden Middle School; and Monday, March 7, at Dzantik'i Heeni. Softball tryouts will be held on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, March 12-14, at Riverbend Elementary School.
