Student Artist in the spotlight: Hanna Rose Schempf

Posted: Friday, March 03, 2006

Age: 14.

Grade: 8.

School: Home Bridge.

Art of choice: She likes to draw, construct and manage sets for productions, paint, sculpt and drum.

All in the family: "All of my family does some drawing, but I do the most. My subjects are also more diverse, probably because I have more time to draw."

Future plans: She plans to continue art through college, and she hopes to make and sell art as a second job.

Favorite artists: Georgia O'Keffe, Van Gogh, Monet, Makani (a cartoon artist) and Judy Rice.

Activities: She is also involved in Alaska Youth Choir and theater.

Wacky art: She believes that the wackiest kind of art is found art.

Her teacher, Paul Berg, says: "Hanna is active in the Juneau arts community. ... [She is] Inquisitive, innovative and unafraid. Confident - she has been around theater and stage productions since at least age 7. She started watercolor painting when she could hold a brush and hasn't stopped. ... Hanna is a great joy!"
