Learn to Ski Weekend at Eaglecrest
The 25th annual Learn to Ski Weekend at Eaglecrest, sponsored by Mendenhall Auto Center Subaru, is March 11 and 12. This free weekend is for first-time skiers in grades 3, 4 and 5.
Applications are available at all elementary schools, Foggy Mountain Shop, Nugget Alaskan Outfitter, Play It Again Sports, the Eaglecrest Ski Area and at http://www.skijuneau.com.
A random drawing will select the 45 winners who will receive bus transportation, ski rentals, lift tickets, ski lessons and lunch. Completed applications must to be returned to the school office or to Eaglecrest by 3 p.m., March 7. Winners will be announced March 8 on KINY radio and http://www.skijuneau.com.
Poster contest in honor of Earth Day
Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska and the Environmental Protection Agency are sponsoring a poster contest for students from 5 to 12 years old in observance of Earth Day 2006. All entries will be displayed from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., April 15 at Centennial Hall during the Juneau-Douglas Earth Day Fair.
Deadline to submit entries is 4:30 p.m., March 8. The contest theme is climate change solutions. Poster sizes are limited to 11 inches by 17 inches. The first place winner will receive $40 and have their design put onto shirts.

Peace vigil for Intl. Women's Day
The CodePink Women for Peace, Women in Black, National Organization of Women and Juneau People for Peace and Justice are hosting an International Women's Day Peace Vigil from noon to 1 p.m., March 8, at Fourth and Main streets.
All genders are welcome.
Summer youth activities requested
Community Schools is compiling a list of all youth summer activities, their costs and dates. This is a free service that is made available to all youth agencies.
Community Schools will compile the information and share it with the community. Contact Community Schools at 523-1774 to submit summer activities.
Deadline for submissions is March 15.
