A man stranded on the Juneau ice field was rescued Tuesday, according to a release from the Alaska State Troopers issued after press time that night.
The release states a TEMSCO helicopter was able to reach George Koenig of Juneau Tuesday afternoon. Koenig had been at Camp 9 on the field, prepared for a long-term cold-weather stay there, but began to run low on fuel and requested evacuation. However, high winds in Juneau hampered evacuation efforts.
TEMSCO flew Koenig to Juneau in good health and with no reported injuries.
