Sheep Creek is not an appropriate place for a heliport. I've noticed that Sheep Creek is being "tagged on" to the approved Dupont location as a possible site. It is not appropriate because Thane Road is a residential area. There are also homes across the Channel at Lucky Me, Zella and north toward Douglas that will be made less livable because of the noise. There's quite a bit of privately owned undeveloped property on both sides of the Channel that will be degraded because of the noise.
The city must stand by its residents and taxpayers and not promote passing on the problem of helicopter noise to us. The helicopter companies should not expand their operations until the technology exists to solve the noise pollution their product causes. There are two sites that ostensibly will not affect residents: Sheep Creek is not one of them.
If you'd like more information about this or if you own property south of Douglas, consider attending the first South Douglas Neighborhood Association meeting, 7 p.m., Monday, March 4 at Douglas Library.
