Florida Marlins relief pitcher Chad Bentz appeared in his first spring training game of the season on Thursday, pitching a scoreless inning in an 8-4 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.
Bentz, a Juneau-Douglas High School graduate, had one strikeout and did not allow a hit or a walk in the seventh inning of the game in Jupiter, Fla.
Bentz signed with the Marlins in the off-season after spending last year in the Montreal Expos organization. After pitching in the major leagues with the Expos much of last season, he is trying to make the Marlins' major league roster this spring. The Marlins play the Orioles again today.
