FAIRBANKS - The University of Alaska Fairbanks has scheduled a dedication ceremony for its newest supercomputer.

The Arctic Region Supercomputing Center ceremony for the computer, dubbed Pingo, will be held Thursday during a Webcast.

The university says the new computer can perform more than 30 trillion arithmetic calculations per second.

Director Frank Williams says Pingo will almost quadruple the center's capacity to solve computationally intensive problems.
