We who live in Juneau, have the best opportunity to experience nature's wonder and beauty of anyone. We can go out into it freely and absorb these wonders. But, think about those whose disability prevents them from doing the things others may take for granted. The act of getting out of and away from the house and having social interactions is truly liberating. Both the physical and mental portions of the body are rejuvenated.
Fortunately, there is ORCA - Outdoor Recreation and Community Access - to provide for these needs. This non-profit is dependent on some recreation grant money and private donations. With recreation being a very large component of independent living, ORCA's task is large indeed. All donations are greatly appreciated and well used, allowing for more people to escape the confines of apartments, houses and no transportation.
We have it so good here let's work together to make Juneau a place people with a disability will always want to live. Support for ORCA, and its programs, is needed from all corners.
