Clarification

The front page story in Thursday's Empire on paramedics was unclear about the differences in training for paramedics and third-level emergency medical technicians, or EMT-3s. Under the fire department's current training policy, EMT-3s are trained in much the same way as paramedics. EMT-3s are proficient at administering medications, using a heart defibrillator and administering a breathing tube. The difference between paramedics and EMT-3s is the amount of in-the-field training.
