Costco frozen chicken entrees subject of contamination recall

Posted: Wednesday, March 05, 2008

JUNEAU - The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation is warning Alaskans not to eat frozen chicken entrees being recalled by Costco because of concerns about potential listeria contamination.

Costco is voluntarily recalling more than 10,000 pounds of Discover Cuisine Red Curry Chicken and Jasmine Rice Entrees sold in four-pack 12-ounce packages.

The product was sent to Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah and Washington.

Department officials say the product was produced on Oct. 18 and sold through Jan. 15. The packages may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The DEC says eating food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease.

No illnesses have been reported.
