FAIRBANKS - Millions of dollars are back in the state budget for a fish hatchery for Fairbanks to go along with one planned for Anchorage.
The move is a compromise that leaves both projects without enough money to meet projected construction costs.
The current two-hatchery plan developed out of talks over a single hatchery in Fairbanks.
Funding for the Ruth Burnett Sports Fish Hatchery got back in after the Senate Finance Committee on Monday accepted an amendment offered by Sen. Joe Thomas, D-Fairbanks.
The amendment puts $25 million toward the Fairbanks project from a 2005 appropriation of more than $60 million. The rest of the appropriation would go toward the Anchorage hatchery.
