JUNEAU - The state Capitol in Juneau is emptying out as nearly half of legislators leave to attend an energy conference in Washington, D.C.
Close to 30 lawmakers will attend The Energy Council Friday and Saturday.
The council is an organization of elected legislators from 10 energy-producing states, five Canadian provinces and Venezuela.
House Speaker Mike Chenault, a Republican from Nikiski, says the annual event is especially important this year with a new president in the White House and many Alaska energy issues - like the proposed natural gas pipeline and drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge - on the table.
