A costumed figure drawing class will be held from 6-8 p.m. tomorrow at The Canvas Community Art Studio and Gallery in conjunction with Perseverance Theatre. Designer Meg Zeder will open the class with a 15-minute talk about the joy of designing costumes for “The Importance of Being Ernest,” opening at Perseverance this week. Actors will model costumes from the production and artist Averyl Veliz will offer drawing suggestions after the talk to anyone who wishes to sketch costumed models. Participants should bring a drawing pad. Admission is pay-as-you-can.
A four-week Beginning Jewelry course will begin tomorrow with Rowan Law, meeting Mondays from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Participants will learn how to solder, saw, file, texture and rivet using silver and base metals. A cost of $155 includes materials.
A Lindy Hop open dance session will be held Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. led by Andrew Rodke. Admission is pay-as-you-can.
Chris Taylor will lead a four-week course on expressive figure drawing meeting Tuesdays in March from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Emphasis will be placed on dynamic line, gestural marks, additive and subtractive marks and the power of strong composition. Anatomy and proportions of the figure will be covered, using dry mediums and a model. A cost of $125 includes materials and the model fee.
Thursdays in March will feature hip-hop dancing with Kim Andree. The class will meet from noon to 1 p.m. on a drop-in, pay-as-you-can basis. All skill levels are welcome. Andree will also lead youth/teen hip-hop classes from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Fridays.
Adult marimba classes will be held from 4:30-6 p.m. on Saturdays from March 12 through April 9 at a cost of $60. Kids’ marimba classes will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sundays from March 13 to April 3 at a cost of $55.
Beginning wheel throwing skills will be taught during a six-week course from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays from March 9 through April 13. A cost of $210 will include materials.
Sherri McDonald will hold a class on paper making and collage on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. from March 16-30 for a $95 fee.
