JUNEAU - The Anchorage Festival of Music announces the third Young Alaskan Artist Scholarship Award. This award gives young performers an opportunity to display their talent at a recital in Anchorage and provides scholarship money for further music study.

Any Alaskan pursuing a college degree or program in music performance in an accredited institution is eligible. To apply, applicants must submit a 20- to 30-minute recording of three works representing different styles and periods and two letters of recommendation. There is a $15 application fee and the deadline is April 27.

The selected students will perform a recital in Anchorage, sponsored by the Anchorage Festival of Music, in the second half of August. Proceeds from the concert provide part of the funding for the scholarship.

The amount of the scholarship varies, depending on donors and concert revenue. Juliana Osinchuk of the Anchorage Festival of Music said last year's winner, Jennifer Bacon, received $3,000, and the scholarship has averaged between $2,000 to $3,000 the last three years.
