Juneau Billiard Association -- Capital City Classic: This is the JBA's major tournament of the year. There is a nine-ball tourney on Thursday, an eight-ball tourney on Friday, a Scotch doubles eight-ball tourney on Saturday, and all finals take place on Sunday. All games take place at the Viking Lounge, downtown, and play starts at 9 a.m. with most of the top players in action between 7-11 p.m. Pool players are expected from Juneau, Sitka, Haines, Petersburg, Hoonah, Anchorage and possibly California. Saturday, March 9

Juneau Gun Club -- The Juneau Gun Club hosts its next American Trapshooters Association registered shoot at the JGC's location on Montana Creek Road. Registration opens at 9 a.m. and shooting starts at 10 a.m. The event will feature 100 singles, 100 handicap and 50 pairs or doubles shoots. Info: Juneau Gun Club, 789-9844.

Juneau Alpine Club -- Mount McGuinnes Climb, this trek will last about nine hours and has a 7.5-mile roundtrip distance with a high energy output level. Sunday, March 17

MEETINGS / CLINICS / ANNOUNCEMENTS

Radical Racquetball classes -- This series of group lessons for players ages 6-12 takes place from 2-4 p.m. on four Saturdays in March (March 2, 16, 23 and 30, no class on March 9) at the Juneau Racquet Club's Valley location. Learn a new racquetball skill each week. Racquets, balls and eyeguards are provided. A small fee is involved. Info: Russ Stevens, 789-2181.

Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Juneau Bowl for Kids' Sake registration -- Families, organizations, businesses and friends are invited to sign up their bowling team from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, at the Nugget Mall. This year's annual fund-raising event takes place on Saturday, April 27, at Channel Bowl. Team captains participating in the early registration period March 9 can get a free lunch. Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation hike program meeting -- The annual hike program meeting will be from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 12, at the Zach Gordon Youth Center.
