Is it just me or is the Empire asleep at the wheel? Why has the Empire not reported on the recent release of video footage where President Bush is thoroughly briefed on the impending Katrina disaster before it happened? The importance of this story is not just slander, but that the video catches Bush in a bold-faced lie. This is not new, but it is news.
The video shows the director of the National Hurricane Center explaining to Bush, in detail, the predicted destruction, days before the storm peak. He described the levee failures as a "very, very grave concern." The Superdome was cited as an unsafe and unsuitable emergency shelter with warnings of "great potential for large loss of life." Then, days after the storm, on national television, Bush lied through his teeth saying, "I don't think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees."
Nobody anticipated it?
Bush was informed, point blank! If Americans don't realize that this administration is playing us for morons, then we actually are morons.
Responding to the briefing, Bush claimed we were "fully prepared" to help during and after the storm. As we all witnessed the Katrina catastrophe, G.W. went to his ranch for vacation, birthday parties and golf. Condoleezza Rice went shopping for $2,000 shoes in New York.
In a situation like this, I expect my president to get busy. And when evidence like this is released, I expect my newspaper to report it. Am I being too optimistic?
