Juneau’s first-ever High Gravity Games competition was held on Sunday at Eaglecrest Ski Area in celebration of Alaskan Brewing Co.’s 25th anniversary. Brewery founders Marcy and Geoff Larson were in attendance along with hundreds of spectators, competitors and event staff members.
The games began with the Start-Up Cup, a four leg, five-person relay in which team members competed in downhill skiing or snowboarding, Nordic skiing and snowshoeing, finishing with a human dogsled pull.
Participants also tried their hand at the keg toss, the event in which $5 allowed the chance to hurl a keg top as far as possible in the snow.
Finally, the Crash-Cooled Dummy event featured Alaskan beer-themed dummies sliding downhill in style.
The celebration featured a beer garden and live music by The Great Alaskan Bluegrass Band. The fun also had a serious purpose. All funds raised at the event will go toward Hospice & Home Care of Juneau.
