Community programs need equal reviews

Posted: Sunday, March 08, 2009

I am writing this letter in support of Senate Bill 32. After experiencing a rate freeze for the past five years, community programs are no longer able to recruit and retain adequate staff. We desperately need to establish regular rate reviews in order to provide adequate support to many Alaskans who experience disabilities.

Our message is fairness. While many providers see regular reviews and rate increases, our community programs do not. We are just asking for an equal rate process that is similar to that given to hospitals and nursing homes. Without regular rate reviews, the agencies that provide essential services will continue to struggle to hire and maintain employees.
