John Albert Hinchman Sr.

A memorial service for former Hoonah resident John Albert Hinchman Sr., who died Feb. 25, 2009, will be held at 5 p.m. March 14 at the Alaska Native Brotherhood Hall.

Born May 19, 1929, in Haines, to Emma Wright and George Hinchman, his Tlingit name was Gooch Shaay. Hinchman was an Eagle, Chookaneidi from Xaat Hit (Ice House).

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Alice Hinchman; a son, John Hinchman Jr.; brother, Frank Wright Sr.; and a step-son, Nick Pfeifer.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Pauline Hinchman; and numerous children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Honorary pallbearers include Ronald Williams, Frank Wright Jr., Kenneth Grant, Adam Greenwald, Jacob White Sr., Vernon Hill, Jerry White Sr., Paul Rudolph, Bill Wilson Jr., Kenneth Schoonover, Ernest Hillman III and Herman Davis.
