Arthur the Aardvark, a popular figure in children's literature since 1977 and the star of his own PBS program, will appear at KTOO's Ready to Learn workshop, at 7 tonight at Riverbend School.
Sue Zahnd of the Association for the Education of Young Children-Southeast Alaska will present information about using television as an interactive learning tool. Arthur will pass out books as part of the First Book program, in which KTOO and AEYC-SEA distribute 300 children's books each month.
Arthur also will make an appearance at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the downtown library for Special Guest Story Time. Children and parents are invited to meet Arthur and get their picture taken with him.

Arthur's show appears on KTOO at 2 p.m. weekdays. Author Marc Brown wrote and illustrated his first Arthur book 27 years ago. Since then, he has written more than 115 books about the studious aardvark and his cast of friends, including his best friend, Buster the rabbit.
Ready To Learn is a national effort to improve the school readiness of young children through public broadcasting. The daily broadcast includes "Arthur," "Dragon Tales," "Clifford," "Between the Lions," "Reading Rainbow" and "Sesame Street."
