The late Isamu "Sam" Taguchi takes a cigarette break in 1982 in the kitchen of the City Cafe. Taguchi retired and sold the Juneau landmark diner in 1982. He began to work at the City Cafe in 1949 and eventually came to own the restaurant. Patrons ranging from governors to fishermen were regulars at the cafe. Taguchi came out of retirement when he opened Taguchi's Fine Chow in the mid 1980s. Taguchi died at age 77 in 1995. The old City Cafe building is now occupied by tourist shops.
