JUNEAU — A proposed change in Juneau’s traffic code would allow low speed vehicles on some local roads.
City Manager Rod Swope says the proposed ordinance aims to accommodate an electric vehicle that the U.S. Forest Service plans to use on public roads, primarily between the Mendenhall Glacier and its office on Back Loop Road.
Swope says the city also is considering a possible acquisition of electric vehicles.
The proposal was introduced last week at the Juneau Assembly meeting.
One provision in the proposed change calls for electric vehicles to pull off the roadway if traffic starts to build up behind them.
